Neil Celley played hockey for Eveleth High School in Eveleth, Minnesota. They were State Champions in 1945 and he was an All-State Team selection. During his senior year at Michigan, he scored thirty-seven goals and thirty-seven assists, a team record until broken by Red Berenson.

His most memorable experience was winning the 1951 NCAA Championship and scoring the last goal with six seconds left in the game, his last goal in a Michigan uniform. Nicknamed “The Seals”, he was the Most Valuable Player in 1951. Neil Celley graduated from the School of Education in 1951 with a Master’s degree in 1952.
