Originally from Nelson, British Columbia, Bob Pitts played for the Trail Smoke Eaters in Trail, British Columbia and the Universal Meteors in Calgary, Alberta prior to his arrival at the University of Michigan in the fall of 1953.  He played defense for Coach Vic Heyliger from 1954-1955 through 1956-1957.  He was selected as team captain his senior year and led the team to an 18-5-2 record and a runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament.

Bob Pitts was also a member of Michigan’s 1955 and 1956 NCAA Championship teams.  During his career, Michigan won fifty-six games, lost only twelve, and tied four.  His most memorable experience at Michigan is playing three consecutive years in the NCAA Tournament, winning two and finishing as the runner-up once.  After graduation, he returned to the Calgary area to pursue a career in the oil industry.
