Avon Artz played his high school hockey for Central High School in Detroit, Michigan. At the University of Michigan, he played center from 1931-1934 under Coach Eddie Lowrey. His most memorable game was against Kitchener, which Michigan won 2-1. He scored one goal and had one assist in that game. His most important goal was a game winning goal against Minnesota, which evened the season’s series. He was elected captain of Michigan’s baseball team in 1933. He was selected by College Humor magazine to the 1933-1934 Baseball All-American team.
Avon Artz graduated from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts in 1934. He passed away 7 January 2001.
